Freshman Investiture for SJC Brooklyn was held September 3 in The Hill Center. A cherished academic tradition in St. Joseph’s College, Investiture is considered a night of commitment and celebration.
We use rituals to express the significance of important moments in our lives. Entering college is such a moment. In this academic ritual, we symbolize the beginning of our students’ education at St. Joseph’s College by “investing” or clothing all members of the Class of 2019 and all new transfer students in the traditional academic cap and gown.
Clad in academic attire, the individual young men and women that have entered the college in fall 2015 are formally assembled as the Class of 2019 for the first time. As a unified body, the students commit themselves to the values and spirit of St. Joseph’s College by taking the Oath of Integrity.
During the ceremony the administration, faculty and staff affirm the Class of 2019 in pledging to educate and support the new freshman class by joining them in the recitation of the Oath and present them with a college pin.
Investiture is unique in that it is the first formal, academic event of the year for the Class of 2019. It also provides a venue where the expectations and ideals fostered by the College are clearly manifested while investing the class as formal members of the College community. Being invested also encourages new students to continue in the process of their transition from high school to college.
